Okay but so you’d kind of think that in general Ford would be a bit less trusting after what happened with Stan. At least in regards to TRULY trusting someone again. In other words, at first glance it’s almost odd to think that Ford was really able to expend SO much trust in anyone.
Which there’s a couple possibilities for that. Bill isn’t strictly ‘anyone’ or even a person. Ford had already broken proverbial ice by having a trustworthy friend in Fiddleford so he’d gotten back to being able to trust better again. Ford was just so goshdang lonely that it wasn’t necessarily trust as much as becoming deeply dependent on having Bill, and thus distrust is swept under the rug in favor of company.
However, there’s kind of one that I kind of think may have been the factor for Ford’s ability to DEEPLY trust Bill like he did. Stan’s betrayal hinged on a couple things. One being the different desires, but the other (that was likely instilled by Filbrick) being that Stan was trying to ride off of Ford’s success.
So, I think maybe part of Ford’s trust issues were biased and stemmed more so only on people that could leech off of him. Which means that someone like Fidds who is on equal standing, is a low threat, because an EQUAL peer can still kick you down to push themselves up.
But then Bill?
Oh Bill is this great being that has far more knowledge than him. Bill seems leagues above him. So, naturally, there’s no threat, of course. At that too, Bill is reaching down to him and helping HIM climb to the stars!!
Bill screamed danger, but I think the reason Ford glossed over that wasn’t just because he was desperate for answers, but also because his distrust has been seated in the idea of someone using him for his knowledge/success that they themselves don’t possess.
Bill Cipher seemed safe in the regard where Stanford had suffered his (then) greatest betrayal.
